[alug] Apache: Is this a bad trick?

Any apache gurus on the list,
I've been doing some site development, and rather than have to
tweak all the addresses, I added 127.0.0.2 sitename to the
/etc/hosts file and defined 127.0.0.2 as a virtual host. I
don't know why, but I feel that's a bad thing to do: is it?
