I've looked there, it didn't really get me any further, I have put
what seems like the right things in the /etc/sane.d/epson.conf file
but it hasn't helped.

I've even run sane-troubleshoot and that says everything works
perfectly and even made the scanner scan!  (It thinks it's a different
Epson scanner but that's just because it's quite old I suspect)

So both sane-find-scanner and sane-troubleshoot think everything is OK
but none of the actual user utilities can see the scanner at all!
