I was advised on another list (NLUG?) that you can walk into Toys-R-Us 
and buy one for £220. Not sure what their stock levels are like now but 
maybe worth a try if there's a store nearby - their website seems to 
suggest they have stock.

Can't see any "warning, this is not Windows" messages on the website, 
wonder how many people will ring them up complaining? Or maybe they'll 
just assume it's Vista and be surprised how well it works after all the 
bad press :-)
