Hi Barry,
When I upgraded to 2.6.19 (i think) all my PATA devices changed from
being hd(abcd) to sd devices.. which sounds very much like what you're
experiencing. I ended up booting a boot cd and changing my fstab and
grub files and then it all worked again.
