As regards the terminal: can you get a Run dialog by pressing Alt+F2?
If so, try running 'konsole'.

Otherwise, you might be able to get a console started from Konqueror
running in file manager mode. Something like Tools | Start Terminal.

Not sure about Perl. In gerenal ;-)
