Has anybody had any experience with flatbed scanners in Linux
Not quite yet...
My cheapo parallel port jobbie won't work in a real OS so I'm going to replace it with a nice shiny new one. I'm thinking about a scsi model, because I think I read somewhere that they are more likely to work in Linux.
Any ideas on which scanners work in Linux or which to avoid and is there a Linux equivalent to TWAIN?
I'm only looking for a low end A4 device for general photos and OCR stuff, not too expensive around 150.00 is my limit.
Well, my Umax Astra 1220S was, at the time of purchase (summer last year) mid-range. Flatbed, A4 in size, SCSI and with decent capabilities. Works nicely under Photoshop 5 in WindowsNT4 (SP3 and 4).
I haven't yet had the time (he says, six months into Linux proper), to install it under Linux, but your request might just kick me into action ;-)
I believe SuSE do SANE (Scanner Access Now Easy) which sound's like the best solution. Besides, I'm sure GIMP could access it :-) Get any probs, pop into a support group on Usenet or IRC (try efnet.demon.co.uk #linux or #linuxhelp).
So how's the newest Woodward in town?
