Just a quick update on the freebie webcam that NTL are giving out at the moment. After a snotty phone call on Tuesday, one was delivered the same afternoon. After getting the USB drivers loaded (enabling the BIOS stuff first), I grabbed a driver from http://qce-ga.sourceforge.net/ - A very quick compile produced a kernel module of about 100K, and with a little work with the strip command this could probably be reduced to around 70K. "make install" does not copy the module across correctly - Mine ended up in /lib/modules/misc instead of /lib/modules/2.4.18/misc. With usbcore, videodev, usb-uhci, and mod_quickcam loaded in that order, "xawtv -c /dev/video0" produced a full colour image at approx 1fps. Downloaded gqcam, but found the image monochromatic with a distinct blue bias. All in all, quite a simple device to set up and use (not sure what for though).
