Do you mean only subscribers can post to this list? In my experience lists that allow non-members to post have spam, ones that don't, do not have spam.
I have not been to any of the IRC meetings as an (ex-CWC) NTL user I cannot get free access to the Internet (i.e. call charges). I hope to get a cable modem if NTL hurries up. I was the person at Linuxday (at the UEA) who was given the Debian CD-R that was burned there. I now have installed it successfully.
Congratulations.
By the way do you think the Donald Knuth books are worth buying? As for the ALUG language debate :-), how about Miranda, which is available for Linux. Another possibility is that you could use Yag assembler which I am developing, perhaps a version LISP could be created for it. As the project is open we could develop clients in whatever languages liked, may be. If XHTML is I could use my web broswer as a client.
Donald Knuths books are fantastic.
in fact on the discussion of books worth getting. I assume you are after books on programming based on a question about Knuth, so here are the ones I found helped, in no particular order.
1) The art of programming Donald knuth (all volumns - 3 or 4 I think ATM) 2) Fundemental Alogrithms Donald Knuth 3) In the beginning was the command line 4) The catherdral and the bazaar - made up of The Catherdral and the bazaar, Homesteading the nooshere and The magic Caldron - available online at http://www.tuxedo.org/ - Eric Raymond 5) Computer Networks - Andrew Tanenbaum 6) Unix Programming evironment - Dennis Kernighan +1 7) K & R 8) The mythical Man month. 9) Code Complete - Steve McConnel. 10) Any O reilly Book.
PS Netscape sent this to Mark by mistake the first time, sorry.
Nutscrape has a habit of sending emails to the wrong people (if atall).
Thanks
