Hello ALUG,
It's been about 3 years since I last took a close look at Linux. I have been very busy for some time with the installation of a new I.T. system at work (Windows based), but have now reached a point where the pressure is starting to ease off a bit, and I have some time available for looking at other things again. In the meantime I understand there has been a lot of progress with Linux, and the way that Microsoft has been going has made me even less of a fan of theirs than I was before. I have recently installed Mandrake 9.0, and yesterday I was wondering whether I could get any remote desktop client software for Linux to access Terminal Services on our Windows 2000 server. This started off a train of thought, and prompted me to re-subscribe to the ALUG list.
tra la la... for a straight off terminal services client... could I attract your attention to... rdesktop...

More info available.... http://rdesktop.sourceforge.net/ <-- there!
Hope this helps, I spent *hours* one day looking for something that did it, everynow and again I used it, back to using vnc at the moment though.
Oh, that reminds me... just incase some of you folks every now and again want to share your linux desktop using vnc... as in... the one you're working in, right now, rather than one that you fire up specially for the purpose... you might want to look at rfb
--- Begin paste --- $ apt-cache show rfb Package: rfb Priority: optional Section: x11 Installed-Size: 666 Maintainer: Ola Lundqvist opal@debian.org Architecture: i386 Version: 0.6.1-6 Depends: libc6 (>= 2.3.1-1), libgcc1 (>= 1:3.3-1), libstdc++5 (>= 1:3.3-1), libxclass0, xlibs (>> 4.1.0), zlib1g (>= 1:1.1.4) Filename: pool/main/r/rfb/rfb_0.6.1-6_i386.deb Size: 263648 MD5sum: bc1613e2a8aeb85d43f7429594b5dca7 Description: VNC Server for X11 - exports current display Like the xvncserver package, x0rfbserver exports an X display using the RFB protocol. . Also included are rfb utilities to capture and replay RFB data streams, and a vnc viewer. --- End paste ---
Right - and now, I think I'll go back to sleep having given you all such completely useless data :)
Brett.
