It's certainly one approach, the one I'm using at the moment. However if I can get 'push' backup to replace 'pull' backup + network monitoring but still not allowing passwordless access to the backup machine then that's the way I'd prefer. I prefer the simpler solution if at all possible, especially for fundamental safety/security things like this.
