I've had a request to give quinophex on #alug more admin power. I've not been there much, so I don't know the context/motive, so I'm emailing the list. Is everyone OK with that? On- or off-list replies OK.
Erk! I didn't know it was *just* me, I thought it was to be me and maybe iDunno as we want to make sure we don't have a single point of failure and have some form of redundancy on people who can fix problems.
That was my fault, I figured that after we get one active MASTER on the channel, then it can be altered afterwards as per the mailing list admin access...
The motivation was mostly due to many of the current people listed as ops no longer being available and the lack of ability for anyone to change the ops list in a timely manner.
Mostly the latter that's the issue, most of the regulars in #alug now are not on the access list at all, and there's no one currently in channel that can do the neccessary delegation.
The reason we thought that we needed some changes made was that the other day we had a delightful little chap turn up and start trolling and I was the only person in a position to be able to do something about him if he got out of hand short of asking network operators to intervene.
2 of the nicks on the access list for ops no longer use the channel, BigJohn visits quite infrequently, Noodles is about sometimes but no longer idles in there. At the very very least we need to add one or two people to the ops list (and one of my suggested is iDunno).
I do tend to idle in there rather a lot - and am usually about during working hours at the minimum :)
Also, the master is never in there these days it seems ;)
Quite.
My reason for putting iDunno forward is that he's very often available and is familiar with using chanserv and irc in general and is a longstanding alugger. I think the suggestion for me was because I'm there often and also can drive chanserv if I take a look at the operators manual first.
The suggestion for you (which was from me) was because you were already a CHANOP on the access list, and of that list are the most active on IRC... didn't mean to put you on the spot though...
Cheers,
