I've been using kde for a while now but have recently found my cdrom to be inaccesible. It's on \mnt\cdrom but the properties describe it as a Locked Directory. The icon shows the directory with a little padlock on it. I've tried changing permissions (both as a 'normal' user and as root) but nothing changes. It means I can't install packages using rpm from the original Mandrake cdrom. The problem applies to other cdroms as well.
Maybe you have ejected the volume and the Linux is not aware that you have done so.It may think that the last CD you used is still mounted and therfore can't mount another one to the same point. What happens if you issue an eject command to the affected drive ?
i.e.
eject /mnt/cdrom
I find it always safer to use the software eject options (or rightclick and select eject from the drives icon on your desktop if your configuration supports that) than to stab the eject button on the drive. A properly configured system should either lock out the button until the volume is unmounted or unmount when the button is pressed, no all do however.
