I would like to buy myself an inexpensive digital camera. 1.3 megapixels will do for the things I have in mind, though I would want a macro mode. Of course I want it to be linux friendly.
I have an Olympus D-380, bought for GBP99 from Dixons in Norwich just before xmas. The supplied memory card is 8Megs so I added a 64Meg card which put the overall price up but still very reasonable. Picture quality seems OK for the money.
It has 2 megapixels, digital zoom and macro mode. Also takes short movies but does not act as a web cam. Menus are easy to navigate to control backlight compensation, white balance and a variety of flash exposure modes etc.
It shows up as a removeable drive under mandrake 8.2 and 9.0 which is very convenient. (Pure luck on my part :-)
The only problem is that this was allegedly a 'special-offer' so it may not still be available at this price.
I just did a quick google and found a review here: http://www.hardwarecentral.com/hardwarecentral/reviews/4166/1/ and it is available to buy here (higher price - just under GBP120): http://www.pcwb.com/servlets/Catalogue?id=(54857)&PageCat=ProductQ
