Brett was running IceWM with Gnome, I believe (see icewm.cjb.net), but the transparent windows come from eterm, I think (see www.eterm.org).

wterm which is a modified rxvt afaik also does transparency, I think that's more a WindowMaker thing. aterm, which is more afterstep. You can of course use whatever terminal windows you want with whatever WM you want. I use transparent eterm's with enlightenment which seems to work well, only thing is the machine needs some time to wake up after I change desktop background images.
