Good news for mandrake users 8.1 and above have an rpm for the driver and the default kernel is already patched.
Ouch! I don't think I know of anyone using that method. Last I heard, if you used that, you couldn't use pppd for normal dialup, but hopefully that's fixed now. It also recommends installation of binary-only software, which I can't condone.
The alternative which has had good results for me was the drivers and howto from http://speedtouch.sf.net/
