Thread you have given is mine :-D ...soundcore is not in kernel drivers. I was told it was but I cannot confirm it.As for 2.6 I have no idea...If I could get hold of soundcore (for my kernel 2.4.24) it might help...
With 2.6, you can do things like "zcat /proc/config.gz | grep SOUND" to see if it's in the kernel (has a y by it), but I don't think that's in 2.4. On that bbs thread, they say it's in the kernel, so I guess we'll trust them. If you want to change that, you need to reconfigure and rebuild your kernel.
I'd find answers to these questions useful: Which ALSA web site instructions are you following? What happens/doesn't happen? What error does "modprobe snd-intel8x0" give, if any? If modprobe gives no error, have you unmuted the volumes in alsamixer or similar?
I am folloeing instructions for intel i810 adding code to modules.conf.modprobe snd-intel8x0 works no errors ....Have tried unmuting sound (pressing M)...I do get some sounds but they are very broken and happen only once then nothing...I am still thinking that soundcore is the problem....I am thinking of trying 2.6 what do you think..?
