Regarding paper tape, I used to work for National Air Traffic Services, who
used paper tape for loading maps and coastlines for the radar screen at the
main air traffic control centre. The system was used old mediator processor
dating back to the mid 60's, and was used up 'til around 1995/96.
Incidentally, the mediator system also controlled the RAF's touch screen
system (a CRT with copper wires protruding from the front). Again this was in
active use until 1992, when a new state-of-the-art system replaced it
Ooh the good ol' days ;-)
