Yes to the first question, not really to the second.
I'm open to suggestions to be honest - Apache is just a resource hog in my experience and I think it's time I got to know something else. I have marginally more experience of nginx (in that I looked into doing this a while ago and have some idea what the configuration is like) but no real preference at this stage.
I haven't used apache for well over a decade now. I have no experience of nginx, but I do use lighttpd. It is very efficient on really small devices. I have it on 3 Linksys NSLU2s (32 MB RAM), a Sheevaplug (512 MB) plus 4 VMs (only one of which has more than 512 MB RAM). My blog runs on a standard wordpress LAMP stack but with lighttpd instead of apache.
