Following on from my last, I can report that not only have I installed version 10 but it does indeed work as it should now. :¬) Thanks Wayne.

You'll probably find the problems will go away if you upgrade to flash 10, distro specific instructions should be a google search away, if your current flash was installed via a distro release package then I would recommend you un-install that first.
