Hi Guys (and of course Ladies),
I'm surprised by the relatively low spec some of you guys are running Linux on. I've got a Celeron powered box with 96mB RAM (Win98/2 word processing box) - I'll have a play and see what happens.
Any of you tinkerers connected a 'doze and Linux box via KVM for quick change one to 'tother?
Yes, I do, but only as a sort of secondary way to get to my Linux box. My normal setup is running Cygwin/X on my Win2k machine and accessing my Linux fvwm2 desktop using that. I have multiple desktops on my Win2k machine so I can dedicate a complete desktop to Linux. This means I can cut/paste between Windows and Linux which is sometimes useful.
I have Belkin KVM switch which switches my keyboard and monitor to the Linux box and I occasionally just switch over to use it directly if I don't want to turn my Win2k system on. The Linux box stays on all the time.
I don't switch my mouse as my (lovely) Kensington Expert Mouse (which is actually a trackball) doesn't like being switched. I just have an old Mouse Systems optical mouse that I use on the Linux box.
