Fancy giving Ubuntu Dapper 64-bit a try? It's not finished yet, but might have a fix for the strange bugs you are experiencing.
You can get a .iso file for Dapper from here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/6.06/flight-7/
Hi Richard an all I just downloaded the latest Dapper 64 (Kubuntu), my mistake, but got the one with the desktop installer, this crashed immediately on hitting installer.
On all distros with a graphical installer, works O.K. with graphical installer and works O.K. until GDM, KDM, then the screen crashes, or "no screens found" startx produces same results.
Plugged in yesterdays Fedora 5 x 64 disc, , basic Gnome installation, got updates (700MB +) still the same, mouse pointer still disappears at GDM (also seems slow)
Gentoo seems the best so far but sound still not working, my sound driver is "hard masked" and due for removal next week, also alsa-drivers are masked. Will persist with Gentoo on spare disc. Kororaa (Version 0.2) , "Gentoo", still seams fastest although not 64bit and loads all drivers including Nvidia and has xgl, installs in 8 minutes
Maybe loading Nvidia drivers into Ubuntu then booting into "screen" might cure problem? not sure if it is possible. But on the rare occasions I have got a screen it looks like the old windows screen before any video drivers are installed.
Many thanks for all the help Kind Regards - Nick Daniels
