Hello, Please can I pick peoples brains?!
I've managed to kill off my MBR during a linux install on a machine with XP on it. I initially installed Fedora and got Grub error 17 messages on bootup. I've since installed Suse10 on it but get the same problem (error 18 this time). Evidently I should be able to install lilo from suse but this gives errors.
I've also tried the XP recovery disk to fix the mbr but it doesn't recognise my password (a normal user with admin privilages).
Can anybody possibly suggest a fix to this?!
Thanks
Simon
Login as "admin" to use recovery console's fixmbr/fixboot - reboot when done to test that works, then boot from your suse disk, choose install and find "repair existing installation" or suchlike and fix the bootloader from there, which should pick up everything you have installed. All should then be well.
That's assuming you have a remembered admin login...
Have fun,

I finally managed to sort it by creating a windows xp boot floppy, logging in and changing the settings for the recovery console so that anybody can login. So I've now got a booting windows system.
On the Grub issue I can boot into suse using the CD. I did try getting lilo to work, but without success.
