Nope. The scanner does not show any signs of life.

It may be time to replace it anyway, it must be >10 years old!

I'm happy to leave it be now. My fault for derailing the thread, I think... I'm just keen to know how to set up this 'new' laptop in such a way that I have all the bookmarks this one does, and Thunderbird doesn’t lose my old emails. Bev.
