Seems fair, as that usually means ethernet or similar, not serial ports.
I have tried pppconfig with TTYS0 etc, but obviously this does not work. Any ideas please?
Why is it obvious that this does not work? What does it say?
Do you have a /dev/ttyS0 or a /dev/tty/s0 or similar? Does dmesg mention serial ports at all? Does "setserial -v" output interesting stuff?
Hi many thanks for help When I use live CD I have a tab System/Configuration/Networking although setting this up does not work, I used the instructions from here: https://www.ubuntulinux.org/wiki/DialupModemHowto and it works O.K. using pon and pof When I install to harddisc the actual message is "networking interfaces not detected" ands there is no tab System/Configuration/Networking If I try the above I get and then type pon, I get "invalid device dev/modem" dmesg gives com1=ttyso Thanks I will read http://ubuntuguide.org I am doing this on my main computer on a spare disc, I will try it on another computer, later Many thanks -Nick Daniels
