I can't answer the specific problem but here are some suggestions:
1. Have you updated all packages? There are frequent bug fixes as well as security updates. Always the first thing to do after an install :-)

What's that? An interesting point - I also installed Mandrake, from the same discs, for a friend of mine. He also has a USB printer which is not recognised as being connected although it is, apparently, supported. I shall, however, do what you suggest and upgrade both systems to 9.1. I know that my brother has 9.1 discs from a Linux magazine so I may try that otherwise I may, as you suggest, contact you off list regarding the discs that you have. Thanks for your help Sid.
