If you can get it to boot from a USB stick then this is what I'm using ....
MSdos bootable USB stick.
Download puppy linux, extract the ISO. Download linld.com and then you have most of the following.
# ls BOOT.CAT LOGO.16 puppy.lin BOOT.MSG INITRD.GZ LUPU_520.SFS ISOLINUX.BIN lupusave.2fs VMLINUZ HELP2.MSG ISOLINUX.CFG PUPPY.BAT HELP.MSG LINLD.COM puppy.lin #
create these files
# cat puppy.lin root=/dev/ram0 PMEDIA=usbflash #PFILE=pup001-none-262144 PHOME=sdb1 # Commented out - these kernel parameters aren't needed for most people, # just for my ancient laptop (PS/2 mouse interrupt issue) #pci=irqmask=0x8000 #ide1=noprobe #ide2=noprobe #ide3=noprobe #end puppy.par # # cat puppy.bat linld.com image=\puppy\vmlinuz initrd=\puppy\initrd.gz cl=@\puppy\puppy.lin
# then boot from usb into dos and then run the puppy batch file.
You then have a small but perfectly formed linux environment. You can then copy the hard drive to dvd(s)

Supposing I do decide to dump Xan dross - I can get the contents of this HDD onto a Mini SD card.
But, not wanting to burn my boats until I have a decet distro up and running, what do I need to do to copy it so that it's bootable from USB card reader?
Or failing that, memory stick?
Thinks: prolly better to install the new distro to a memory stick and get used to it first? IIRC, I had prombles getting this (early) Eee to boot from USB.
Nev! Marmalade sometime next week? (ALUG minimeet in Fat Cat innit)
