Oops. I should've replied to the list as well. Phil Thane and I discussed this and I got a new mouse, which is, thus far behaving itself. I have a hunch the cable for the old one was slightly damaged, but it's hard to be certain.

Unlikely - it would say you're plugging in and unplugging a device. Do you have another mouse you can try to test?
