I was thinking that to draw more people into the ALUG meetings it would be a good idea to have 1 or 2 structured talks at each event for a duration of 30 mins each (20-25 min talk, 5-10 mins Q&A). If members of the group talk about stuff they have expertise in doing on Linux, the talks will require very little preparation and probably done on the fly.
An initial list of talks could be: Building a Linux cluster - Mark?
I think given our failed attempt (network quality not good enough, machine spec not high enough), I think I'd better talk about our alternative solution of network management systems. ;-)
Using XML/Cocoon/etc - Andrew / Paul?
I think it may be more interesting to either just have an XML/XSLT talk, or perhaps Paul would be able to talk about the background of the Apache Server Foundation (home to the Cocoon project)? It's a subject I ought to know more about and would like to know about. Cocoon itself is probably still too fast-moving a target to do a useful talk on.
Installing Linux for the first time
Is there a newbie up for this?
Perhaps it would be a good early talk to have "Introducing the new ALUG website". Things are happening, just far too slowly. It ought to be ready to accept new users in a week, max, though. On Wednesday I get fed up and do DNS-buggering to give it a temporary home ;-)
