Apart from gathering DNS names, phone number and the like, the thing that trips most UK people up when they try to get pppd working is that most UK ISPs use CHAP authentication. To get his to work there are two key things yu must do:
1. Prevent your pppd from asking the ISP to authenticate itself. To stop this add noauth to your pppd script.
2. Tell the ISP you user name so it can work out for itself what your encrypted pass word should be when you send it. To do this add - user myusername - to your pppd script (no dashes required)
THis way I have succesfully fot thefree.net to work.

Hi
Has anyone managed to get Localtel/Screaming.net working with linux & diald?? If so could you post your pppscript?? I've tried using pppsetup (which worked fine for freeserve) but I'm pulling the required bits of info from the winblows .ins file which screaming sent me which is not ideal...
Cheers
Eric
