It might help if you could please explain what the difference is between auto and manual scan. Also if you could specify how you did the scanning before.
I have a HP PSC-2175, and I think that has an scan feature where you just press a button on the printer and it scans and transfers the image to the computer (heh, never tried this though). Is this your idea of autoscan?
I can also use xsane to scan from the computer by pressing only a button. I think I can tweak the brightness of the scan, but have not tried. Is this what you consider manual scan?
Maybe I'm just missing an important distinction here. Depending on your definition of the above, you could look at the sane website and see if has any information about particular scanners there.
