It seems 2.6 kernels do not need ide-scsi, which is a great step forwards. If only growisofs burnt CDs too...
Ah, so if I upgrade to a 2.6 kernel things will be simpler. I could even try going the whole hog and upgrading to Slackware 10.0, there's a second release candidate around at the moment.
