Hi Someone has kindly downloaded a Knoppix CD for radio hams for me. http://www.afu-knoppix.de/ if anybody would like a copy could they please contact me off list. Can I install this to hard disc? I have come across a vague reference to KNX HDINSTALL Regards Nick Daniels
As this is just regular Knoppix with the radio stuff added I would guess that you simply run the following command as root (being carefull that you don't wipe an existing OS or partitions from the machine in the process) You can get to a root console in Knoppix with CTRL-ALT-F1
knx-hdinstall
After a warning box pops up, you should then be presented with an installer, usual installer type questions are asked, hostname, filesystem types etc....
Last time I tried installing Knoppix to a HD, I had to go into the KDE control centre and manually tweak the localisation settings despite starting with the correct options.
After that of course you can update and upgrade the system as if it were a regular debian box (you may need to tweak the apt sources first)
Many thanks All installed OK with regional settings all set up. Have tried many times to install Debian on my system but always problem with X server and this monitor - 19 in Flexiscan T662-T I assume it is normal not for "user" not to be allowed to use kppp ( not a great problem as will be only used with my radio equipment) Many Thanks Nick Daniels
