I am hoping to get an IBM Thinkpad R51 from the insurance as it's about equivalent to the Dell. I understand that Thinkpads are pretty compatible with Linux and wondered if any of you have experience of this particular model?
Graphics chip is Intel Extreme Graphics 2. 56K V.92 modem (No other details given except that I think it's an internal PCI modem - sounds nasty) Wireless is Intel 802.11bg and Bluetooth (Not interested in the Bluetooth) Integrated Intel PRO/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
Are the above likely to work?
Hi Barry,
Most of that hardware should work. My PC has Intel Extreme Graphics, which work fine for me (I don't play games much).
THe wireless sounds like the Intel 200, which works perfectly. I have it on my HP laptop. Use the ipw2200 driver. The Bluetooth is probably a USB device, so that'll work with no effort. Asfor the modem, good luck. I never bothered trying with my laptop.
