Quick Qs on routing: Linux box address 192.168.11.106 is on intranet 192.168.11.0 Router box address 192.168.11.100 forwards packets to router box 192.168.10.100 These are routed to server 192.168.10.10 These are then sent to the outside world. My present routing table for linux box is 192.168.11.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0 0.0.0.0 192.168.11.100 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0 I sent a mail to myself at this win computer's address (Jenny_Hopkins@toby-churchill.com IP 192.168.11.102) as a test but I assumed as i haven't got resolv.conf (is it?) setup it would send this packet to the outside world then it would come back in. Balsa set up a mail client using localhost as SMTP server, and gave me the address root@TRX850 (where TRX850 = linuxbox name) . I think if the sent mail was going to arrive it would have by now, so failure means a couple of Q's: 1.How can I trace the packet that i sent from the linux box to see if it went anywhere? 2.What do i need to configure on the linux box to correct the non-routing event? resolv.conf is empty as yet - adding either "nameserver 192.168.10.10" and "Jenny_Hopkins@toby-churchill.com 192.168.11.102" doesn't cause stuff to arrive. 3.Surely the address @TRX850 needs to have the domain name toby-churchill.com, same as the network here? I mean, it's a GREAT address, but have I boobed? Thanks! Jen of the Questions.
