I just can't see anything unusual in the place it stops each time, midway in a directory.
Hi Jenny, This means that the tar-archiving operation is coming to a halt after writing a fixed number of bytes (14211 ), and before it has finished its job.
I don't know why that might happen, and only in cron jobs, though the generic explanation is "something's broken".
Maybe another cron job has (somehow) the effect of killing that one.
I'll try to think about it a bit more; if I get any ideas I'll follow up.
