For a number of years, I've been happy with my hosting provider, 1&1.
I've only really got two complaints; a) Lack of IPv6 support. Hopefully that will come in time, and b) They only support 10 sub domains for each DNS domain you have with them.
It's the second that looks like it may begin to bite soon. Can anyone recommend a reliable DNS provider that will allow me an order of magnitude more subdomains (*) if I move my DNS to them?
TIA,
Greg (*) OK, so 20 would probably be enough for the forseeable future, but then I thought we;'d never get near 10 ...
Ever since I wanted to mess about with SRV records, I switched to dyndns.com. It's significantly more expensive for their Custom DNS service than most places, but they do support IP v6 and up to 75 domains (IIRC) through a really well put together web interface.
I'm sure there are cheaper options, but I don't mind paying the extra after a few annoying episodes I had with a cheaper DNS provider ...
Peter.

bytemark. You get complete control of your domain. No stupid restrictions.
If you have one of their hosting packages (I have a VM there) then you can host as many of your domains as you wish on their nameservers. If not then you can pay them for DNS service alone. But beware. Do NOT move registration of an existing domain from 1and1 to bytemark (or anyone else for that matter) unless you are prepared for a break in service. Simply redelgate the domain from 1and1 servers to bytemark. Leave the registration with 1and1.
I made this mistake last year with one of my domains and lost use of the domain for around 10 days (read the registration rules carefully).

The company I work for had been using 1&1 for a while before I worked there. I had never used them my self until I started there. Then, one day, I came into work to find we were getting no mail and our websites weren't reachable. So I logged into 1&1 only to see that all our DNS details were gone! I rang tech support (which was a far eastern call centre and thusly prolonged the conversation massively!) only to find that they had no explanation. I asked if our accounts details had been compromised and they couldn't help, "don't you keep logs of people deleting their entire domains?", "no!".....
I promptly moved to Daily (daily.co.uk) and never looked back. If you transfer to Daily, they will give you that domain free for the first year then its a few pounds there after, very cheap, they are in England and so only English and competent people answer the phone and they offer loads of other stuff to.
Just my two pence.

And I also have a VPS with daily (as well as my bytemark VPS). Astonishing value. I get 750 gig of traffic per month on their "entry" offering (9.99 pcm plus vat). I run a tor node on it.
