I have installed Mandrake 8.2 from the magazine cd. All seemed to go well until the X configuration, when it wouldn't stop scrolling down the list of video cards. I eventually turned the machine off (it was late and had taken hours to get that far)
Linux now boots, apparently ok, except that 'startx' gives a message:
execve failed for /etc/X11/X giving up xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error
Does anyone know what to do to put this right? I am new to Linux, so please excuse if I have missed something 'obvious'.
Thanks
Russell

Erk. Since you *ahem* shut off the system. It didn't complete the installation of X. Your best bet is to install xinit rpms and a bunch of others it properly requires.
I never really did like mandrake linux everytime it 'stops' halfway through installation on the laptop a few months back (testing which distros is best). Apparently, Debian did the job fine.
