Following a query from Mick, I decided to try importing all my mail from Thunderbird into Claws (v3.8.0) and it's all been going well until I tried to import a mailbox from 2009. The messages in the import folder total 399 and yet there are only 350 in the imported folder.
I clicked on the red exclamation mark at the bottom of the Claws window and it tells me '*** IMAP4< Alert: Mailbox is at 99% of quota' but despite searching everywhere I can, I can't find any mention of quotas.
Can anybody help please?

It sounds like you have quotas set on your IMAP folders on the server and you are approaching the limit. More detail needed please. For example:
are the mail folders in TBird all IMAP (i.e. is the mail all stored on a server rather than locally)?
are you trying to import into IMAP folders (probably on the very same server) in Claws?
I'd advise importing mail only to a local claws folder.

Actually, thinking about that reply it strikes me that you would not need to import IMAP mail into claws - just connect to the existing mail folders on the IMAP server and the mail will be there waiting.
Apologies for the stupid earlier reply.

No need to apologise :-)
The TBird mail is all on my machine here and that's where I want to store the Claws mail too. So am I doing something wrong then if Claws is giving me this message?

I can see the problem now. It's thrombosis of the keyboard - there's a clot on it!
If in doubt, RTFM! I have now created a mailbox structure in /home/chris/.claws-mail and from the File menu, I've created a new mailbox of type MH. I've pointed that at the folders I created and it's working. I can now move stuff off the server and into the local store. So it's already down to 73% full and it should soon be down to almost zero.
Only one problem and that's that Claws insists on creating a new inbox, drafts, trash etc and I don't want those in the MH mailbox. If I delete them, claws just recreates them. Is there any way I can remove them permanently? And yes, I have checked the manual, FAQ and online and so far I haven't discovered a way.

Sorry - emails crossed. Glad you got that sorted.

I don't think you can remove those. But it shouldn't matter if you arrange your mail to suit your local preference. For example, I have separate email inboxes for each of my accounts. But all those are stored in the same MH mail store (e.g #mh/claws-mail/mick-at-rlogin and #mh/claws-mail/admin-at-rlogin etc). So incoming mail is correctly filed inbound but all sent mail is initially stored in the same Sent mailbox. Within the default Inbox I have a folder called "keep" which has subfolders by topic (e.g. ALUG, bike-club, blog etc). I can then store any mail I wish to keep (both incoming and sent) in those folders.
Works for me.

Possibly. As I said earlier, it sounds as if you have quotas set on your IMAP mail folders and you are attempting to import mail to those folders. The IMAP server is then issuing a warning.
Assuming that you are doing:
File -> Import mbox file
check that the "Destination folder" you have selected is actually local and not an IMAP folder. You could also check Claws' network log (under Tools) to see if Claws is attempting to connect to the IMAP server and store mail there. If you /have/ selected a local folder and not IMAP, then I'm sorry but I can't figure out why Claws should be complaining.
HTH

Hopefully you've seen my other mail where I said I'd solved this.
You were right to point out that the destination folder was local. I wasn't doing that as I didn't perceive the difference between the designations onscreen of IMAP and the absence of MH which I had seen in Sylpheed.
It wasn't until I got the quota error that I thought to look at that difference.
Another lesson learnt!
