Ummm
whois knows about DNS names, not full E-Mail addresses.
So 'whois gmail.com' should work.
There's more to it than that, do a 'man whois'.

Hum - that's rather too wide a remit - so whois would find me at girolle.co.uk but not an individual from his gmail address?
More work for Inspector Knacker, I feel: he should be able to twist gmail's arm...

whois gives you information about a domain, not about people. So you would call the program like:
$ whois gmail.com
but I'm not sure this is what you wanted. I guess you want a "finger" kind of information (i.e. per person), and the only services that come close to a global "user information lookup program" are probably facebook/linkedin...

Facebook I don't do, and I wouldn't think _this_ client goes under his own name.so Linkedin is unlikely to be able to 'finger'him. I have Linkedin KFd anyway...

perfectly correct answer. whois looks up domain records. So "whois gmail.com" would get you a (very unhelpful) answer.

I think the "whois" issue looks sorted, so I'm going back to the original query. You're looking for info on "mcfmarketing3@gmail.com". A google on this draws a blank. So does a google in "mcfmarketing3". Nevertheless, such a google often brings up a lot of info about what/who's behind an email address.
Now, however, google on "mcfmarketing". Now you're getting somewhere. In particular:
http://mcfmarketing.weebly.com/
which is "The Official Site For MCF Marketing! Also known as MyCashFix."
It seems one can join up with this organisation to receive "training", and thereafter do [something].
So perhaps "mcfmarketing3@gmail.com" could be one of the organisers at MCF Marketing; or could be one of those that joined up.
That's about as far as I can (or want to) go! Hoping it helps.
Best wishes to all, Ted.

Juno - I can't remember what the mcfmarketing email was about, and I seem to have deleted it...
Still, I now have whois? installed, so some good has come of it.
