Me and Charles Garcia-Tobin (also on this list) were wasting a Sunday afternoon mucking about with Gnome Meeting last weekend. It is mostly working quite well as far as Audio and Text go, but we now need to both get affordable USB webcams to complete the picture.
Any other ALUG'ers out there running USB webcams on Linux ?, which ones have good compatability, we are not over concerned with performance (this is for Gnome Meeting after all) but something that is nice and easy to get working and currently available would be good.
I did have a really nice 3Com Office Connect camera. But when I tried it a year ago it was no fun getting it to play with Linux (and anyway it seems to have gone missing now)
Hi Wayne
I picked up a Logitech Quickcam - Came free with my cable install... The driver is freely available on Sourceforge and may even be part of the current kernel. Quality isn't good, but I'm not complaining.
Regards, Paul.

Still on the subject of webcams, I'm pondering to sell my Phillips webcam soon. I had it for like 4 years now. Funny enough, this webcam actually got me looking at the Linux kernel and I had incredible fun using back port patches of USB for 2.2.x kernels! (Unfortunately, it actually got me looking at bleedin' edge kernels ;)
If anyone is possibly interested, drop me a email :)

Ive got a Creative Webcam Pro Its based on the ov511 chip, which is supported from about 2.4.20 onwards. It shows up as a video for linux device. The pro version is 640x480, but i have a feeling the non-pro version uses a different chip.
Anyway, I recommend it, although I havent found much of a use for it on the end of my modem...

I have an old USB Trust Spacecam - works well within the constraints of its performance. I can say I've heard good things about the aforementioned Logitech, though.
