Do we have any Android fans here?
I am having problems left right and centre with the email app on my new Jolla phone (it runs a modified version of the Maemo/Meego OS that was on the Nokia N900/N9 and is now called Sailfish).
Quite why I should have these problems is beyond me but in order to prove, to myself as much as anybody, that it's the email app itself that's at fault, I want to install an Android app. The phone runs Android apps natively in addition to its own OS stuff so is a valid test IMHO.
So can anybody recommend a good email app for Android phones? I want it to sync with an IMAP mailbox but don't want calendar sync.

Seconded. Been using K9 for years, and it's top.
Cheers, Laurie.

I'll have a look at those anyway although the decision has been made. But it might help reducing the learning period.

OK. I've just installed it and done the setup. It worked straightaway although having typed a reply, I couldn't then see a way to send the wretched thing! But that's simply lack of familiarity with something new.
But it proved the point and that is, there's something wrong with the email setup on the Jolla itself. It took me about 1 minute to do the setup on K9 and apart from not completing the login details correctly, it worked.
Appreciate your help. Once I find a way to send mail, I'll probably keep using that as it just works!

Isn't that thing shaped like a paper dart in the top bar?

Er, there isn't a top bar here. If I tap on the text at the top of the screen (it has a purple bar beside it), it displays the full headers of the mail and tapping it again makes them disappear. But I have 6 icons at the bottom of the screen :- Reply, Reply all, Forward and on the next row, a down arrow, a bin and an up arrow. If click on reply, it's at that point that I see a 'back' arrow, what I take to be the home icon and then there are the three dots at the right. Clicking on those dots gives me Send, Add Cc/Bcc, Add attachment, and on the next row is Save as draft, Discard and More.
Despite struggling with the inbuilt email app since I got the phone a couple of days before Christmas, and failing now to send mail, I downloaded K9, installed it, configured it (with one mistake on my part) and had it sending and receiving mails within 5 minutes of making the decision which email client to go for.
It just reinforces my point (which I've been making to the developers) that the inbuilt email app is broken.

Thirded, (but then I'm the Steve from above)
Comments in question are around 5-6/12/13 with the possibly most useful from Mick ended up with the subject line "[ALUG] Dovecot/postfix problems with K9 - was - Re: ALUG Posting Etiquette - was Cross-platform text file processing tools" @ 06/12/13 17:03
You can probably work out what the out previous incarnations of the subject line were!
Re how to send on your other post, On my phone Create new mail is achieved by pressing the Envelope with a Plus sign icon. Send is achieved by pressing a triangular "arrow head" symbol, similar to a "Play" button on a CD player/VCR/Media player. On the right of the top icon bar.

I have a small dotted line, like an extended colon with three dots at the bottom right of my screen. Pressing that displayed several more buttons including one marked 'Send'. Oh, I guess I should press that then ;-)

Yep. Although I have to look at the postings, it did. Thanks.
