By the way I've got this "natty" or so I think it is !!! network kit from PC world to link 2 PC's together for file sharing etc - I haven't had time to set it up (it is two lengths of T Base 10 cable with a hub - perhaps if I bring that we could get it installed so I could then do it at home ? - just a thought.
Do that. I have a spare W95 laptop we can use to play with too, in case you want to use that setup at home. My Linux box, which needs to stay in the office, is running Samba, so we can set some shares up on there for files. I have one of those HDD caddies, so if someone brings a disk (EIDE) that NT4 can see, I can pop it in, and make it available in our room via the network. That would make copying files around pretty easy, and only needs the NT box to be brought down to swap the disks over.
