Thanks for everyone's input on this. The first suggestion from Ian re configuring KMail with a message size works beautifully and took less than 20 seconds to implement. Checking the mailbox now with KMail, it lists all messages (size, subject, sender) which are over the 9k size limit I've set and asks whether to download, leave, or delete them. This is exactly what I needed - although there were only 8 virus mails today so it's possible they are starting to tail off. Thanks again
