*DOES* shut down as well, using: shutdown -h now
Erm, what command were you using?
shutdown -h now
The problem's solved. I issue that command, it kills the TERM signal, it says "Going into maintenance mode", then hangs for a bit (well, it *IS* only a 486) and then shuts down.
I personally created an alias for the command (I couldn't find any other aliases), so it's all OK. Of course, I can't actually use the laptop for squat until I get my PCMCIA card working, but then I have a stack of HOWTO's (PCMCIA, Net, some other misc stuff) next to me to keep me going. If I fail with that, then it maybe another e-mail to you guys, failing that M$ windows is going back on. :( No use having a computer that is no use! :-/

Damnit, I now have two people asking me for help with d-link PCMCIA cards. I guess I'm going to have to do some research. I mean, it's not like I've ever owned a laptop...
Kernel 2.2.19 seems only to support the DE-600 and DE-620 directly as far as I can tell... although web sites seem to suggest that the 650 and 660 just work straight out of the box with pcmcia-cs. What exactly is the problem that you're seeing?
