It works fine on a rooted device. I have Magisk installed so I'm not sure it looks for root (since it's hidden) but my guess is probably not.

That's interesting, I hadn't heard of Magisk but have just been reading a bit about it. However given that it took me days to get LineageOS working I don't think I'll mess with it again. The phone is pretty old anyway and I'm not convinced the Covid app would be much use as I hardly get out. Thanks for the info though.
