Hey guys,
Does anyone here stream media across their network to an xbox 360?
I've got a load of media on my fedora desktop, mostly AVI / mkvs, I want to watch them via my 360 but I really don't want to have to burn DVDs each time, and then there is the added problem of whether the 360 will read copied DVDs or not.
I know there is some application that will act as a media server, to host video to the PS3, but I can't seem to find anything for the 360.
I could try MythTV, but last time I tried that (about a year ago) is was effort to configure, and also was a pain having to run to the desktop to turn the video on then run back and forth to change shows/volume etc
I've got telnet/vnc on iphone, maybe I could use that as a remote?
Any ideas? I've got 3 seasons of stargate atlantis that are begging to be watched...

There are a few upnp/dlna servers for Linux although most don't seem to work very well (or at all) with the xbox as a client.
However I think Fuppes will do it. http://sourceforge.net/projects/fuppes/ but you will probably need to compile from source as I think packages are scarce.
There is also twonkymedia server but this is non-free (in both senses of the word)

It's more the problem at the xbox end, I've got it seeing upnp type shares but it just seems to hate pretty much every type of video format that I shove at it, even using twonkymedia which is ugly, evil and non-free so I can't even suggest trying it. This would even include video files that it would play off USB sticks. Sorry, but my answer on this one is give up while you still have some sanity left ;)
Other upnp clients on the network are generally quite happy where the xbox isn't (PS3 and XBMC). Also, the only reason that I have a copy of *spit*twonky*spit* is because it allows me to stream mp3's to the xbox when playing games.

Yeah, I think I'll quit whilst I'm ahead on this once, and for some strange reason my xbox is making a horrible sound, not good for a less than 1 month old piece of hardware (maybe it detected my linux interested and set a self destruct)
I'll take a different route, I've plugged in a VGA cable from port 2 of my gcard into the TV, but I can't get fedora12 to detect it as a second monitor
Do I need to install something? I've gone System > Admin > Display, but it can't pickup the TV.
All is on and connected as I have done previously when I had this setup for vista
Any ideas?
