If I want to install a DVD writer onto an existing Slackware 9.1 system what do I need to do to get it to work? Are there any good HowTos? (The system already has a CD which I will be replacing with the DVD writer)

Follow the same instructions as for a CD burner, then all you have to do is get dvd+rw-tools and use growisofs to burn or install k3b or whatever fancy gui frontend you so desire.

It seems 2.6 kernels do not need ide-scsi, which is a great step forwards. If only growisofs burnt CDs too...

Ah, so if I upgrade to a 2.6 kernel things will be simpler. I could even try going the whole hog and upgrading to Slackware 10.0, there's a second release candidate around at the moment.
