Hi
I have a RH 7.2 machine which I have just updated with KDE3.0 KDE3 is very nice, but I cannot use konquerer for web browsing, as although KPPP connects OK, any URLs typed in are timed out. The KPPP log shows low rates of traffic, inshort pulses (typically between 0.1 and 0.2 Kb/s) with more data flowing out than coming in. Trying to connect using lynx is exactly the same. Does anyone else have any experience of this and what might be causing the problem?
Another anoyance is that at starting KDE the splash screen Ksplash always crashes. This is not fatal, just a bit of a pain and spoils my nice new desktop. Is there anyway that this can be tackled?
best wishes
Glen
Glen,
The internet issue looks like your DNS servers are setup wrong (/etc/resolv.conf), under nameserver try 195.60.0.1 which is a public DNS server I know to be reliable, other than that....

the DNS is usually autoconfigured - but I had manually addedd the correct addresses for my server , and tried the one you suggested with the same result (no change).
The Ksplash problem has been fixed by changing the KDE theme - some themes have the bug, some don't it seems.
many thanks
Glen

Hi Glen
I too run a RH7.2 box and suffered from a similar problem a while back after having to do a rebuild (long story, but then I do high risk programming).
Take a look at /etc/sysconfig/network and check that the GATEWAYDEV is equal to ppp0 - If it was working before the upgrade to KDE3, and GATEWAYDEV is correct, then further digging is required.
Regards, Paul.

fixed the Kppp fault too now, there was no second init string in the config file. I used Wvdial to dial up and then checked the two configurations against each other, corrected Kppp and all connected!
thanks for the suggestions anyway.
