Have Linux Phrasebook (Essential Code & Commands) and I can find no reference to ftp there.
Could some kind person suggest a good place (webwise) to start looking for gen?
(The button on the Firefox add-on won't appear, and demands new files, so can't use that, and it's irksome to have to use another box, fire-up XP, update AVG definitions, and use WS...)
In case I haven't mentioned it, I managed to change the Eee's root password at last.

Why would there be? SFTP is much better for copying files. (or scp, or rsync, or $anynumber_of_things). Having said that, if you're looking for a decent command line ftp client for linux, then you can't go wrong with lftp.
