Has anyone else found the (uk.)?comp.os.linux.* newsgroups a bit hostile? Are we better off asking questions here on the list?

I've always found the comp.os.linux.* groups to be okay - but I do see what you mean by them being a bit hostile. Personally I would just like to see this list used for discussing ALUG matters. Perhaps it might be worth setting up another list called alug-qa@stu.uea.ac.uk for discussing any Linux problems?

On the contrary, I have found them quite helpful. Though they do have a tendency to wander off topic.

And you are much better off asking questions in a public forum as more people are there to help than could possible be so on the list.
